What private actually means
Your own chauffeur-guide for the duration, your own air-conditioned vehicle, no group, no shared jeeps on safari, no fixed departure dates. You set the pace; we design the route around your interests and book every hotel personally.
Why private is the right shape for Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has nine distinct regions within five hours' drive of each other. A private driver moves between them on your schedule — early start at Sigiriya, late lunch in Kandy, swim before dinner in Tangalle — in a way no coach itinerary can. The driver also acts as your fixer for restaurant bookings, last-minute changes and local insight.
What's included as standard
Private chauffeur-guide for the duration · air-conditioned 4WD or premium SUV (Toyota Land Cruiser / Lexus on premium tier) · all inter-region transfers · daily breakfast · 24/7 in-country concierge on WhatsApp · ATOL & TOPP protection · all hotel bookings handled personally.
Vehicle classes
Classic: Toyota Premio or KDH van — clean, reliable, air-conditioned. Standard on luxury tours.
Premium: Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus LX — for honeymooners and clients who want the extra refinement on the longer transfers.
Helicopter: Cessna Caravan or Bell 407 for transfers between regions, cutting Colombo–Yala from 5 hours to 25 minutes.

Answers
Common questions
What does 'private tour' actually mean?+
Your own chauffeur-guide, your own car, your own dates. Nothing shared with strangers — no group coach, no fixed departure, no pooled jeeps on safari. Most of our UK clients are surprised that this costs less than the equivalent TUI or Kuoni group package.
What does a private Sri Lanka tour cost from the UK?+
£3,400–£6,000 per person for 10 luxury nights, land-only, based on two sharing. Add £1,500–£2,000 per person for return economy flights from London. Private touring carries no real premium over group touring — the operators just charge more for the brand.
Is a private chauffeur-guide actually a guide?+
Yes. Our drivers are all formally licensed Sri Lankan tour guides as well as professional drivers — they speak excellent English, know the history and the trails, and act as your in-country fixer for the duration.
Who is this for?+
Couples, families, small private groups (max 6 in one vehicle, more in multiple). Honeymooners. Repeat travellers. Anyone who doesn't want to be on a coach with 40 strangers.
Are flights included?+
Optional — we can book flights as part of the package (ATOL protected) or you can book direct with SriLankan, Emirates, Qatar or Etihad and we'll handle the airport transfer. Most British clients prefer to book flights direct and let us handle everything else.
How far ahead should I book?+
Peak season (December–February): 6–8 months ahead to secure top hotels (Amangalla, Cape Weligama, Tea Trails). Shoulder (October–November, March–April): 3–4 months. We've handled 6-week-out trips successfully, but the hotel choice narrows.
Can I change the itinerary mid-trip?+
Yes, within reason. Hotels are pre-booked but your driver can re-route, add a day at the beach, skip a temple, or arrange a last-minute helicopter transfer through us. Your concierge is on WhatsApp 24/7.
ATOL protected?+
Yes. Every Serendib & Co tour is ATOL protected and TOPP insured — your deposit and trip are financially safeguarded from confirmation. Important when British operators are still occasionally going under.
