The luxury stays
Water Garden Sigiriya — 30 villas, private plunge pools, the most complete experience in the area. Aliya Resort & Spa — sleeker design, the strongest spa. Jetwing Vil Uyana — the only resort built around a created wetland, with a slim loris in residence. Wild Coast-style tented suites can be arranged at Minneriya for the elephant gathering.
Climbing the rock — the right way
On-site at 6.15am with a private historian. You finish the climb before the heat and the coaches; descend by 9.30am for breakfast back at the hotel. Sunset climbs are quieter and cooler but you lose the frescoes and the mirror wall to fading light.
Pacing the cultural triangle
Three nights is the minimum. Day 1: arrive, settle, sunset on the property. Day 2: Sigiriya at dawn, Dambulla cave temples after lunch. Day 3: Polonnaruwa by bicycle at dawn, free afternoon. Day 4 (optional): Anuradhapura by lantern, Minneriya safari in season.
Fitting Sigiriya into your itinerary
Sigiriya is almost always the opener. Helicopter or chauffeur transfer from Colombo, 3 nights here, then drop south to Kandy (1n), Ceylon Tea Trails (3n), Ella (2n), Yala (2n), south coast (3n). That's the 14-night grand tour in one sentence.

Common questions
Which is the best luxury hotel in Sigiriya?+
Water Garden Sigiriya is our default — 30 villas with private plunge pools, full views of the rock from the lily-pad pavilions. Aliya Resort & Spa is the higher-design choice; Jetwing Vil Uyana is the eco-lodge with the closest rock view.
What time should I climb Sigiriya Rock?+
First entry at 6.30am. We have you on-site at 6.15am with a private historian — you finish the climb before the morning coach groups arrive and before the heat builds. Sunset climbs are quieter but you get less of the frescoes.
Is Pidurangala a better climb than Sigiriya?+
Pidurangala is rougher (a scramble at the top) and gives you the iconic view *of* Sigiriya Rock — ideal at sunrise. Sigiriya itself gives you the frescoes, the mirror wall and the summit ruins. Most luxury clients do Sigiriya for substance, Pidurangala for the photograph.
How many nights do I need in the cultural triangle?+
Three nights minimum to do Sigiriya, Dambulla cave temples and Polonnaruwa without rushing. Add a fourth for Anuradhapura and an evening Minneriya elephant safari in season (July–October).
Can I fly into Sigiriya by helicopter?+
Yes — we operate private Bell 407 transfers from Colombo (CMB or BIA) direct to the Water Garden helipad. 45 minutes vs 4½ hours by road, and it doubles as a scenic flight over the central highlands.
What else is worth visiting near Sigiriya?+
Dambulla cave temples (20 minutes), Polonnaruwa by bicycle at dawn (1 hour), Anuradhapura by lantern (2 hours), and Minneriya National Park for the elephant gathering during the dry season (July–October).
