June weather

The south-west monsoon is established: expect wind and showers from Colombo down to Tangalle. The east coast, by contrast, is dry, hot and calm — 30–32°C with flat, clear water. The Cultural Triangle stays largely dry and unusually empty.

Wildlife in June

The Gathering builds at Minneriya and Kaudulla as tanks recede and hundreds of elephants converge — one of Asia's great wildlife spectacles, at its peak from July but already impressive in June. Wilpattu is quiet and rewarding.

The June route

Sigiriya and Habarana, then Trincomalee for five or six nights of beach and reef, with Kandy on the way back. It is the cleanest low-season itinerary we build, and it costs meaningfully less than the same standard in January.

Common questions

Is June a good month for Sri Lanka?+

Yes if you go east and north-central. Trincomalee and Pasikuda are in season, the Cultural Triangle is dry and quiet, and prices are at their lowest.

Is it very wet in June?+

On the south-west coasts, yes — regular showers and choppy seas. The east coast and Cultural Triangle stay largely dry.

Can you see elephants in June?+

Yes. Minneriya and Kaudulla are already busy as The Gathering builds, and Udawalawe is reliable year-round.

Is diving good in June?+

Excellent off Trincomalee — visibility is at its best, and Pigeon Island reef diving and snorkelling are at their peak.
