Yala National Park is on the south-east coast, 300km from Colombo — about 5 hours by road, or 3 hours from Galle. It holds the densest leopard population in the world, best seen in Block 1 on a private dawn game drive. Entry is roughly USD 40 per adult plus jeep and tracker; February to July is the driest and best. Two nights gives you four game drives, which is what it takes.

Block 1 can be in peak season. Choose Block 5 (Lunugamvehera), or a low-density camp, for a much quieter experience with equally rich wildlife.
