Flights — Sri Lanka wins
SriLankan Airlines runs a daily non-stop from London Heathrow to Colombo (~10h 30m). Bali has no direct UK service in 2026; you'll connect via Singapore, Dubai or Doha, with 16–22 hours door-to-door. For a 10-night honeymoon, that's two extra travel days you don't get back.
Cost
Land cost is similar: £8,800–£12,000 per couple for 10 nights at a luxury level in either country. Flights tilt toward Sri Lanka: £750–£950 per person to Colombo in premium economy vs £950–£1,400 to Denpasar with a stop. Total: Sri Lanka is typically £600–£900 per couple cheaper.

Beaches, honestly

Both excellent in different ways. Bali has the polished international restaurant scene (Locavore, Mosaic, Mauri). Sri Lanka has the deeper local cuisine — rice and curry, hoppers, kottu, plus rising fine-dining at the luxury hotels.
Better for a honeymoon if you want pure resort relaxation?+
Bali, marginally. Four Seasons Jimbaran or Bulgari Uluwatu are designed for not-leaving-the-resort honeymoons. Sri Lanka rewards a touring honeymoon more than a base-and-bask one — though Cape Weligama or ANI gets close.
Which is safer in 2026?+
Both are well within FCDO 'see our advice and prepare' guidance — neither is on a 'do not travel' list. Sri Lanka has been politically stable since 2023; Bali is its usual self. We've sent dozens of UK honeymooners to both in 2025–2026 without incident.
Can we combine Sri Lanka and Bali?+
