Designer and operator, not a middleman
Most bespoke travel in the UK is arranged by companies who then hand the trip to a local operator. We are that local operator, selling direct. The person designing your route is in the same time zone as your driver, knows the general manager of the hotel by name, and can move a booking on a Sunday.
It removes a margin layer, which is why our pricing usually lands 15–25% below a London operator for an identical hotel list — and it removes a communication layer, which matters far more once you have landed.
What bespoke planning involves
We start by working out how you actually travel: early risers or slow mornings, one base or constant movement, museums or beaches, how much driving you will tolerate in a day. Then we build the route around that, not around a standard circuit.
Every hotel is chosen by specific room category. There is a large difference between a garden room and an ocean suite at the same address, and a bespoke planner should be telling you which one is worth the upgrade and which one is not.
Bespoke travel agency vs bespoke tour operator
Agency: resells packaged or semi-packaged product, earns commission, has no staff in country.
Tour operator (London-based): designs the trip, subcontracts delivery to a ground operator, adds a margin on top of theirs.
Ground operator (us): designs the trip and delivers it. One margin, one point of contact, staff on the island.
For a single destination specialist trip, the ground operator is almost always the better structure. For a six-country round-the-world, a London operator earns their fee.
Bespoke experiences we arrange most
Private historian-led touring across Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura · a reserved carriage on the Kandy–Ella railway · dawn hot-air balloon over the cultural triangle · full-staff villa takeovers with a chef and butler · private naturalist-led leopard tracking at Yala and Wilpattu · seaplane and helicopter hops between regions · vow renewals on the Galle ramparts · Ayurvedic programmes with a resident doctor.

Answers
Common questions
What is bespoke travel?+
Bespoke travel means the journey is designed for you specifically rather than sold from a shelf. A planner learns how you travel, then builds the route, chooses the hotels and rooms, arranges private guiding and handles everything on the ground. Nothing is pre-packaged and nothing is shared with other travellers.
How do bespoke tour operators differ from standard travel agencies?+
A travel agency resells other people's products and takes a commission. A bespoke tour operator designs and operates the trip itself. We are based in Colombo, so we contract the hotels, employ the chauffeur-guides and fix problems in person — an agency in the UK is three phone calls away from anyone who can actually help.
What is included in a bespoke travel itinerary?+
A private chauffeur-guide for the duration, an air-conditioned vehicle, all inter-region transfers, every hotel booked by specific room category, daily breakfast, park fees and private jeeps on safari days, a 24/7 in-country concierge on WhatsApp, and full ATOL and TOPP protection.
Which travel companies specialise in truly bespoke high-end holidays?+
For Sri Lanka the credible field is small: a handful of London operators (Audley, Scott Dunn, Experience Travel Group) and a smaller set of Colombo-based specialists, of which we are one. The practical difference is where the team sits. London operators are excellent at the sales conversation; ground operators are better on the day something changes.
Which luxury travel companies design bespoke experiences for couples?+
Ours are built around couples more than any other party type — honeymoons, anniversaries and second honeymoons make up roughly half our bookings. That means private dining on the Galle ramparts, Tea Trails bungalow suites, cliff villas at Cape Weligama and a pace that leaves genuine free afternoons.
How much does bespoke travel planning cost?+
We charge no separate planning fee. The design work, the outline route and the pricing are free and unconditional — you only pay when you confirm the trip. Ten bespoke luxury nights run £3,400–£6,000 per person land-only; ultra-luxury runs £7,000–£12,000.
How do bespoke travel companies surprise experienced clients?+
Access rather than luxury. A tea-estate bungalow that takes one booking a night, a Sigiriya climb starting before the gates officially open, a private carriage on the Kandy–Ella line, dinner cooked by a Colombo chef in a villa rather than a restaurant. Experienced travellers already have the five-star hotels; they have not had the doors.
Are you financially protected?+
Yes. Every journey is ATOL protected and TOPP insured, so your deposit and your holiday are safeguarded from confirmation onwards.
