November weather

Early November still carries inter-monsoon storms; by the last ten days the south and west coasts are usually settling into their dry season. The north-east monsoon starts on the far side of the island, so Trincomalee closes as Galle opens.

Late November is the sweet spot

From roughly the 20th, the south coast is often excellent while still priced below December. Blue whales return to Mirissa, Yala dries out, and the Cultural Triangle firms up. It is the best-value week of the high season, effectively.

Planning around the turn

We build November trips with a flexible spine: fixed hotels, adjustable day order. If a system lingers, we push beach days later in the trip and bring the hills forward.

Answers

Common questions

Is November a good time to visit Sri Lanka?+

The second half is, increasingly so. Early November can still be wet; from around the 20th the south and west coasts usually settle into reliable dry-season weather.

When does whale season start in Mirissa?+

Blue whales generally return off Mirissa from November, with sightings becoming consistent through December to April.

Is November cheaper than December?+

Considerably — often 25–35% less for the same hotel, with the last week of November frequently delivering near-December weather.

Where should I avoid in November?+

The east and north-east — Trincomalee, Pasikuda and Batticaloa move into their monsoon as the south-west dries out.
