Best 5-star hotels
in Bentota.
Our 2026 edit of the best luxury and five-star hotels in Bentota, Sri Lanka — independently reviewed, with rates and alternatives.
Bentota is the long-established West Coast beach town — wide pale sands, the brown Bentota River behind, and the Bawa-designed estates and hotels that made this stretch famous in the 1970s. It is the most family-friendly beach within easy reach of Colombo.
Best time: November to April. How many nights: 2–3 nights.

#1 · Anantara
Anantara Kalutara Resort
Anantara Kalutara was the last project Geoffrey Bawa designed before his death — and the architecture shows it. Two wings frame a lagoon, with the ocean on one side and calm river water on the other. An hour from Colombo airport, it is the most-used long-weekend luxury beach hotel for travellers who don't want to drive to Tangalle. Pool suites are worth the upgrade.
From £420/night

#2 · Aitken Spence
Heritance Ahungalla
Heritance Ahungalla is a Geoffrey Bawa-designed beach hotel that opened in 1981 and has been steadily refurbished — the columned pool, the open lobby with its reflecting pool, the symmetrical wings facing the ocean. Not the most luxurious option on the west coast, but one of the most architecturally significant in Asia. The Heritance Club rooms are the ones to book.
From £240/night

#3 · Cinnamon Hotels
Cinnamon Bey Beruwala
Cinnamon Bey is a 200-room beach resort with strong Moorish-influenced architecture and one of the best beachfront pools on the west coast. Strong all-inclusive options, multiple restaurants, the easiest west-coast booking for travellers who want scale and reliability rather than boutique character.
From £160/night

#4 · Taj
Taj Bentota Resort & Spa
Taj Bentota is one of the original Bawa beach hotels, refurbished by Taj in 2018. Walking distance to the Bentota lagoon mouth, strong family facilities, the most refined of the Bentota five-stars after Anantara Kalutara. The pool wing is the one to book.
From £200/night
