Best 5-star hotels
in Colombo.
Our 2026 edit of the best luxury and five-star hotels in Colombo, Sri Lanka — independently reviewed, with rates and alternatives.
Colombo has reinvented itself in the past decade — Galle Face Green, Cinnamon Gardens, the revived Pettah markets and the lakeside Bawa houses now make it a genuinely interesting city stop rather than a transit point. Most travellers spend one or two nights here on arrival or departure.
Best time: Year-round. How many nights: 1–2 nights.

#1 · Shangri-La
Shangri-La Colombo
Shangri-La Colombo is the most-used luxury arrival hotel for travellers transiting through Colombo. 500 rooms, ocean-facing on Galle Face, a serious spa, four restaurants including Sri Lanka's best dim sum. For one night before flying onward to Bandaranaike, it is the easy answer. For longer Colombo stays, use the Galle Face Hotel for character.
From £220/night

#2 · Colombo 3 (Galle Face)
Galle Face Hotel
The Galle Face Hotel is the most historic luxury hotel in the country — open since 1864, on the seafront promenade, oil portraits of every governor in the lobby. The Heritage Wing is the wing to book; the Classic Wing is a renovated business standard. Sundowners on the chequerboard verandah are non-negotiable.
From £260/night

#3 · Hilton
Hilton Colombo
Hilton Colombo is the workhorse luxury hotel in the Fort district — 384 rooms, walking distance to the World Trade Centre and the new Port City development. Less character than the Galle Face Hotel, less polish than the Shangri-La, but consistent and well-located for business stays. The executive lounge is one of the better ones in the city.
From £160/night

#4 · Cinnamon Hotels
Cinnamon Grand Colombo
Cinnamon Grand is the largest five-star in Colombo and the flagship of John Keells' Cinnamon group. Strong restaurant cluster (Nuga Gama, Lagoon, Cheers), reliable pool, central location. Not luxurious in the same way as the Shangri-La, but the price-to-quality ratio is the best of the Colombo five-stars.
From £140/night

#5 · Colombo 1 (Fort)
Galadari Hotel
Galadari is a reliable four-star option directly opposite the Galle Face Green — well-located, well-priced, but not luxurious in the way the Shangri-La next door is. Book it for value Colombo stays, not for the luxury chapter of a trip.
From £85/night

#6 · Colombo 3
Renuka City Hotel
Renuka is the small, well-priced Colombo option for travellers who don't want a 500-room hotel. Eighty rooms, walking distance to the Galle Face Green, the South Indian restaurant downstairs (Palmyrah) is one of the city's best. Not luxury, but well-considered.
From £75/night

#7 · Colombo 7
Tintagel Colombo
Tintagel is Colombo's most architecturally significant small hotel — eleven suites inside the former Bandaranaike family residence (later Sri Lanka's official prime ministerial home). Discreet from the road, lavish behind the gates. The most refined small-hotel option in Colombo.
