Best 5-star hotels
in Galle.
Our 2026 edit of the best luxury and five-star hotels in Galle, Sri Lanka — independently reviewed, with rates and alternatives.
Galle Fort is a walled colonial town — coral-rag ramparts, cobbled lanes, designer boutiques and ocean light at every corner. It anchors the southern coast and pairs beautifully with the wild beaches of Tangalle and Mirissa.
Best time: December to March. How many nights: 2–3 nights.

#1 · Aman
Amangalla
Amangalla occupies the former New Oriental Hotel inside Galle Fort — high ceilings, polished teak, four-poster beds, and a courtyard pool hidden from the street. It is the most historically significant luxury hotel in Sri Lanka, and the only one inside a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Garden House suites with private gardens are the ones to book.
From £900/night

#2 · Koggala, South Coast
Kahanda Kanda
Kahanda Kanda is the most-loved small luxury hotel on the south coast — eleven suites on a 12-acre hilltop tea estate above Koggala lake, twenty minutes from Galle Fort. Owner-designed (interior designer George Cooper). The Garden Suites with private pools are the upgrade. Adults-only, lake views, the kind of property guests rebook.
From £580/night

#3 · Teardrop Hotels
Fort Bazaar
Fort Bazaar is the most stylish small hotel inside Galle Fort — a 17th-century merchant's house restored by Teardrop Hotels, eighteen rooms around a central courtyard. The Church Street Social restaurant is one of the best inside the fort. Less expensive than Amangalla, more lively, and arguably more characterful for travellers under 50.
From £280/night

#4 · Galle
Le Grand Galle
Le Grand is the largest new-build five-star directly outside Galle Fort — 159 rooms with the iconic fort-and-lighthouse view from the upper floors. Service is hit-or-miss, but the location and the rooftop pool are unmatched. Book the higher categories for the fort view.
