Colombo has reinvented itself in the past decade — Galle Face Green, Cinnamon Gardens, the revived Pettah markets and the lakeside Bawa houses now make it a genuinely interesting city stop rather than a transit point. Most travellers spend one or two nights here on arrival or departure.

1. Day 1 — Arrival. Airport transfer, sundowners at Galle Face.
2. Day 2 — City & design. Bawa morning tour, lunch at Paradise Road Gallery, afternoon at the National Museum, dinner at Ministry of Crab.
3. Day 3 — Onward. Transfer south or to the hill country.
