Indian Ocean hotel rates are up roughly 4–7% year on year — a normalisation after the sharp post-pandemic corrections. Long-haul economy fares from London have eased slightly; business class has held firm. For a typical Sri Lanka fortnight the net change against 2025 is single digits.
The bigger variable is not inflation, it is timing. The gap between a January and a September trip is 25–35%, which dwarfs any year-on-year movement.

Christmas and New Year: 9–12 months. Aman, Tea Trails and Cape Weligama sell out by spring.
January–February: 6–8 months.
March–April: 3–4 months.
May–September (east coast): 2–3 months, and the best value on the calendar.

Where the value is this year
Sri Lanka remains the strongest hotel-quality-per-pound long-haul destination for UK travellers — the same standard of property as the Maldives at roughly half the rate, with an entire country attached. Vietnam and Oman are the other two obvious value plays for 2026.
Within Sri Lanka, the east coast between May and September is the single best-value window on the island's calendar and remains under-booked by British travellers.
What is changing in how people book
Three clear shifts this year: fewer and longer trips rather than several short ones; villa takeovers replacing multiple hotel rooms for families and groups; and a continued move from fixed-departure group touring to fully private, tailor-made journeys — which in Sri Lanka is not a premium product but usually the cheaper one.
How to protect a 2026 booking
Pay a deposit only to an ATOL-protected operator, check that the certificate arrives with your confirmation, use a credit card for the deposit, and take travel insurance from the day you book rather than the day you fly.
