2026 month-by-month for UK travellers
January–February. Best weather of the year on the south coast, west coast and hill country. Peak pricing for half-term. The window most honeymooners pick.
March. The shoulder sweet spot — still dry everywhere except the east coast, prices drop 15–20% versus February, fewer crowds at Sigiriya and Yala.
April. First half is dry and warm (Easter peak). Late April brings the first inter-monsoon showers.
May–September. "Green season" on the south/west — afternoon showers but mornings are usually clear. Dry on the east coast: Trincomalee, Pasikuda, Arugam Bay surf. Best-value window for honeymoons.
October–November. Second inter-monsoon. Late November is a hidden gem — dry days, low prices, hotels half-empty.
December. Dry season returns. First two weeks are still shoulder pricing; Christmas–NY is the highest premium of the year.

When is the best time to visit Sri Lanka in 2026?+
December 2025 through early April 2026 is dry on the south and west coasts and hill country — the main UK window. May to September 2026 is dry on the east coast (Trincomalee, Pasikuda, Arugam Bay) and shoulder pricing elsewhere.

Yes. Sri Lanka has been politically stable since 2023. The FCDO advises against travel only to specific border areas that no luxury itinerary touches. Tourism numbers in 2025 hit pre-2019 levels and 2026 forecasts are higher again.

Do I need a visa for 2026?+
Yes — a Sri Lanka ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) costs about £42, valid for 30 days double-entry. Apply 72 hours before travel via the official ETA portal. UK passports are eligible.
How far in advance should I book a 2026 holiday?+
