Adam's Peak (Sri Pada) is the island's sacred mountain — a 2,243-metre conical summit climbed by Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim pilgrims through the night between December and May, to watch the sunrise from the rock-cut footprint at the summit.

    The climb

    Begin at 2am, summit for sunrise, descend by 9am, sleep through the morning.
