What a luxury package should include

Flights and hotels are the easy part. The inclusions that separate a genuine luxury package from a repackaged group tour are: a private vehicle and licensed chauffeur-guide for the entire trip, all entrance fees and national park permits, private jeeps rather than shared, breakfast daily plus most dinners, airport meet-and-greet, and a named planner reachable 24 hours a day while you are away.

What is usually excluded

Visas, insurance, lunches, alcohol, spa treatments, tips, and premium extras like seaplane or helicopter transfers. None of that is unreasonable — the test is whether the exclusions are listed in the quote or discovered afterwards.

Package versus tailor-made

A package is a route someone else designed, priced at volume. Tailor-made begins with your dates, pace, budget and interests. At the luxury end the price gap has largely closed, because the hotels and vehicles are the same either way — what changes is whether the itinerary fits you or you fit it.

We treat our packages as starting shapes. See tailor made holidays for how the design process works and bespoke travel for the fully open version.

2026 price bands, per person

Land-only, two sharing, luxury level. 7 nights £2,000–£3,600. 10 nights £2,600–£4,800. 14 nights £3,600–£6,400. Ultra-luxury 10 nights £6,500–£12,000. Return economy flights from London £700–£1,100; premium economy adds £500–£900.

Our shaped routes are on the tour packages page and the full library at itineraries.

All-inclusive at the luxury end

All-inclusive means something different above five stars — it usually covers premium spirits, in-villa dining and excursions rather than buffet volume. Where it works and where it doesn't is covered on all inclusive luxury holidays.

Questions to ask before you pay a deposit

Is the vehicle private for the whole trip, or shared on some days? Is the guide licensed and dedicated, or a driver with a phone? Are park permits and jeeps included? What is the deposit, the balance date and the cancellation schedule? And how is the money protected — see our protection page for how we answer that one.

Answers

Common questions

What is included in a luxury holiday package?+

At minimum: flights, hotels, private transfers and a defined itinerary. A good one also includes a private car with a licensed chauffeur-guide throughout, all entrance fees, park permits, breakfast daily and most dinners, and 24-hour in-country support. Ours include all of that as standard.

Are luxury packages better value than booking separately?+

Usually yes, because operator hotel rates at the luxury end are lower than public rates and the transport is bundled rather than bought day by day. The real gain is financial protection and someone accountable when a flight moves.

How much does a luxury holiday package cost?+

For Sri Lanka in 2026: seven nights £2,000–£3,600 per person land-only, ten nights £2,600–£4,800, fourteen nights £3,600–£6,400. Return flights from London add £700–£1,100 in economy. Ultra-luxury versions run roughly double.

What is the difference between a package and a tailor-made holiday?+

A package is a pre-designed route you join; tailor-made starts from your dates, pace and interests and builds around them. We start every trip from a package shape and then change whatever you want — the price difference is usually negligible.

Are luxury packages ATOL protected?+

Any package including flights sold in the UK should be. Always confirm the protection arrangements in writing before paying a deposit — see our protection page for how ours are structured.

What is not included in a luxury package?+

Typically visas, travel insurance, lunches, alcohol, spa treatments, tips and any optional experiences such as seaplanes or helicopter transfers. A reputable quote lists exclusions explicitly rather than leaving them implicit.

How far in advance should I book a package?+

Six to eleven months for peak season, particularly December to March in Sri Lanka. The best small hotels — Amanwella, Ceylon Tea Trails, Cape Weligama — sell out first, so early booking buys choice rather than discount.

Can I change a package itinerary?+

Everything we sell is adjustable — swap hotels, add or remove nights, change the order, extend into the Maldives. The published packages are a starting shape, not a fixed product.
